WHAT DO I WEAR FOR PHOTOS?
One of the top questions clients ask is what they should wear to their family photo session, what they should dress their newborn in, or our opinion on what looks the best. Coordinating outfits for a family or group can be a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be! I’ve put together some sample outfits below to help inspire you to create your own ensemble. Here are some tips to take away from the following collections:
1) Layer it up!
Layers create visual interest and will keep you warm and cozy when we’re outside playing in the leaves. Think tights, cardigans, blazers, and scarves.
2) Choose two main shades that you love, then base your color scheme around them. Use the brightest color, also known as your accent color, sparingly.
3) Don’t forget accessories!
Pieces like burlap suspenders or a flowery headband for the kids will take your ensemble to the next level.
If you’re stumped trying to coordinate your outfits, don’t worry! I am always here to help. I encourage my clients to text me photos of potential outfits if they get stuck. Good luck, and most importantly have fun with it!

Quick tips for what to wear to your next portrait session:
Wear solid colored clothing
Choose muted tones that are a bit subdued
Choose similar tones for your top and bottom (both dark or both light)
Choose 1-3 colors for your group portrait, ones with similar tones that go nicely together and have everyone work within that color palette. For example: dark green, navy, and burgundy – all dark jewel tones. OR tan, a lighter olive green, and denims – all lighter, softer tones
Choose a top with sleeves at least to the elbow
Choose long pants for men/ladies or a skirt below the knee for ladies
Choose dark socks and footwear (unless it’s a barefoot photo on the beach)
keep jewellery simple and minimalistic
Do your hair the way you’d normally do it while wearing these clothes
If getting a haircut or new hairdo, make your appointment at least 2 weeks prior to your portrait session
